In aviation, automotive and sports & leisure industries, the pressure to reduce a product’s ecological footprint is growing. In addition, improving eco-balance through lightweight construction and durability during use phase, the products’ end-of-life is increasingly coming into focus. Using the example of a child's car seat, the lecture points out essential design and material requirements when it comes to re-designing products for a circular economy. What if a child seat could be dismantled very easily and the plastic reused? Fraunhofer Cluster of Excellence Circular Plastics Economy CCPE demonstrates that textile, foam and hard parts can be made from one single bio-based plastic, so that all components can be recycled without the necessity to dismantle. Using innovative self-reinforced mono-material sandwich structures, the combination of high lightweight potential and closed-loop-recycling opens-up new re-design approaches and application fields. The presentation will be held by two speakers as a tandem lecture. Both experts, Anna Krüger and Sabrina Schreiner, are listed in the speaker biography.
