Bio4MatPro

Stand: E66

Bio4MatPro is the competence centre for the biological transformation of materials science and production technology and is part of the BMBF-funded research network Model Region Bioeconomy in the Rhenish mining area. The aim is to develop and manufacture products with high added value based on renewable raw materials, establish scalable biocompatible production processes and bio-based value chains for a climate-neutral circular economy in order to reduce dependence on fossil resources and put the regional economy on a more sustainable basis. In our network with around 50 partners from industry and science, up to 150 people are working on 23 research and development projects in three focus areas. Focus area 1 addresses the resource turnaround through minimising consumption and enabling sustainable alternatives. Within the focus topic area 2, we deal with topics related to switchable clues and with the scalable functionalization of technical materials and their surfaces with biological, physical and chemical functional components. Focus area 3 includes projects on the biological transformation of industries and addresses bio-based coatings and equipment for medical technology, textile industry and lightweight construction. In addition, work is being done on new biotechnological production processes for bio-based additives and plastics recycling.
