Bausano has developed a way to give purpose to PolyAI

Bausano is a company which has shown exceptional innovation and skill, when it comes to adapting and creating products that are manufactured out of alternative and sustainable materials. The company is based in Italy and they are well-known as an extrusion machinery expert. Their most recent breakthrough, involves a solution which enables the LDPE-and aluminium-based post-consumer waste, to go through a process which converts old packaging into core tubes, which can then be turned into winding reels of cloths, film, paper and a variety of other materials.

The E-GO R extruder line, developed by Bausano, is made up of a single-screw extruder for G-GO R 60/37 tubes and it comes with a double degassing and forces loading system. This design means that the product is perfect for managing the density of the material, whilst simultaneously ensuring its smooth flow within the machinery. Before the extrusion process occurs, the material goes through a densification process and this performs the job of increasing the material’s firmness and also transforms it into a manageable compound, making it suitable for further processing. After the material has gone through this process, the company is able to produce a robust tube that has a smooth external and internal surface feel, which also offers a cheaper alternative to traditional cardboard or virgin polymer cores.

Prior to developing the product, feasibility studies are carried out and then after the product has been developed, further tests are also conducted. The final phase of the entire project, is to carry out verification of the feedback from the laboratory and within this last phase, the company uses an MD30 twin-screw counter-rotating laboratory extruder, to test the waste polyAI. Performing this test, allows the company to confirm the suitability of the solution for industrial scale-up, including amperage, thrust and finally, head pressure values.

Extrusion Test Manager at Bausano, Marco Masiero, described it as, “A rigorous process, which qualifies the company as a reference point for the development of innovative solutions capable of satisfying even the most complex production needs, linked to the recovery of non-conventional materials.”
