The polyolefins giant and leading producer of biopolymers on an industrial scale Braskem is studying the possibilities of producing carbon negative pp in the US. Braskem’s proprietary technology used to convert bioethanol into physically segregated biobased PP would be utilized in the project. The company is exploring potential partnership opportunities for this project with several clients, brand owners, and suppliers, reported Plastics Technology.

The US is an ideal place for a project in the polymer’s vale chain as it is home to the largest ethanol production in the world, and has the necessary infrastructure, technology, and supply availability. 

Braskem’s biobased PP would be a unique, recyclable and carbon negative solution produced on an industrial scale. It would help address brand owners’ and OEMs’ transition to a more sustainable future.

Expanding our portfolio to include biobased PP supports Braskem’s goal of 1MM tons of biopolymers capacity by 2030 and becoming carbon neutral by 2050.”
