Discover how the chemical industry can lead the way in sustainability

The chemical industry has a vital role to play in addressing the environmental challenges of our time by improving its key technologies and materials and partnering along value chains to enable sustainable transformation.

Come see our panel, join our workshop, meet us at our booth and discover our vision for the chemical sector. Chemical companies who are leading this transformation today are already focusing on:

  • Product Portfolio Transformation: The chemical industry must shift from fossil-based chemicals to renewable, bio-based alternatives. This includes using renewable feedstocks like biomass and algae, developing biodegradable, low-carbon products and applying sustainable chemistry principles that reduce hazardous substances and waste.
  • Circularity: All sectors, including chemicals, need to move away from the traditional linear model (produce, use, dispose) toward a circular approach where products and materials are reused, remanufactured or recycled. For the chemicals industry, this specifically involves innovative recycling techniques such as chemical recycling, as well as requires systemic thinking to assess the full lifecycle impact of materials.  Collaboration across the value chain will allow the sector to scale cost-effective solutions.
  • Nature and Decarbonization: As the chemical industry contributes significantly to global CO2 emissions and environmental degradation, many companies have already started a decarbonization path. Not only will this require shifting away from fossil-based fuel, by transitioning to renewable energy, but a holistic sustainability approach is required to address multiple environmental challenges simultaneously, going beyond carbon reduction alone. Taking into account the broader planetary boundaries framework will allow for action on levers such as biodiversity and water conservation, avoiding the burden shifting that comes with carbon tunnel vision.
